Gordon lived in the old industrial cotton powerhouse of the North - Oldham, Famous for its many cotton mills ans chimneys there was escape for the workers to the rugged and foreboding hills and villages of Saddleworth, This painting from the 1970's is one of his few framed paintings of Saddleworth he exhibited locally. The picture portrays Huddersfield Canal running adjacent to Uppermill High Street, The atmosphere of an Autumn day is captured in the minimal brush stroke depiction of the trees and the coldness of colour used for the buildings at the canal side,
